1. Primary Election Day is Tomorrow. Please. VOTE.
My take: If you are registered as a Democrat or Republican, you will vote the ballot of your party. If you are unaffiliated, you can pick either ballot. In Mecklenburg County there are some interesting primary contests for Democrats and in Iredell, Cabarrus, Gaston, and Union, most of the competitive races occur on the Republican side. In Mecklenburg, one race a lot of folks may not be paying much attention to is the one for House District 106. Representative Carla Cunningham (D) has a primary opponent who represents the far left of her caucus. Cunningham, to her credit, has been willing to cast independent votes at times and as a rental property owner, understands first-hand the challenges we face in our industry. She should be retained as she stands as a voice of reason in the legislature. I’d also recommend support for longtime Commissioner Pat Cotham and Arthur Griffin who is running for re-election for first time. Finally, Cabarrus County is the epicenter for some hot primary races. Steve Morris and Jack Lambert should absolutely be your picks for Commissioner. Holly Edwards (Home Builders Association of Greater Charlotte Member) in House District 73, Representative Kevin Crutchfield in District 82, and Grant Campbell (physician and veteran) in House District 83 also deserve your vote.
2. New Podcast Released TODAY!
We welcome Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem DANTÉ ANDERSON and City Council Member MARJORIE MOLINA to today’s
“Getting Real With Rob.” Two dedicated, personable, and approachable leaders. Listen to Rob deftly humanize the issues near and dear to two people who represent a great deal of talent and passion for the City of Charlotte. Hear him uncover their deepest goals for their service as leaders in one of the most influential cities in America. What are their passions? Quantitative and qualitative analysis of information is just one strategy they use. As well as applying metrics as the lens for debate and decision, so outcomes can be measured and leveraged for even more progress. Even their cadence of speech suggested patience and listening: Stop and slow things down and look at the future based on collective priorities and meaningful debate.
The rest of this episode — although flooded with valuable opinion fact — is pure pleasure.
My take: This is a 30-plus minute interview for “Getting Real With Rob” but please don’t let that deter you from listening. Honestly, we could have used a few more hours to unpack everything. I’m so thankful for having been able to spend this time with these accomplished, articulate, and passionate public servants. They consistently exhibit the talent and patience of thoughtful decision making. If they are successful in recruiting additional leaders with a likeminded approach, we’re going to be OK.
