CRTPO (Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization)

CRTPO (Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization) is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Charlotte Urbanized Area.  Federal legislation requires Urbanized Areas with populations larger than 50,000 to have an MPO, whose primary function is to carry out the transportation planning process among the member jurisdictions within its established planning area boundary.  Due to the growth of the Charlotte Urbanized Area, and the subsequent expansion of the MPO planning area boundary, the CRTPO was established in place of the former Mecklenburg-Union MPO.

Centralina Regional Council of Governments

Centralina Regional Council of Governments’ mission is to lead regional collaboration and spark local action to expand opportunity and improve quality of life. We do this through creative problem solving, innovative service delivery and support to our local governments. –Established in 1968, Centralina Regional Council (Centralina) was created to serve the needs of our nine-county region, which includes Anson, Cabarrus, Gaston, Lincoln, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. We are governed by a Board of Delegates, comprised of our member governments, and are one of 16 North Carolina regional councils (Centralina is referred to as Region F) authorized by the General Assembly. Regional Councils are public organizations that address regional issues and opportunities by offering a variety of planning, coordination, program management, advocacy and technical assistance services. These services are provided by our departments and affiliates. Our regional framework offers a neutral platform where local governments from all nine counties can come together and shape area-wide planning. As a champion for the entire region, Centralina looks at creating holistic solutions that benefit communities of all sizes and strengthen our region’s competitive advantage on the national and international stage. To carry out our mission, we work among the regionalcommunity and individual levels.

Piedmont Public Policy Institute

Piedmont Public Policy Institute.

The Piedmont Public Policy Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization chartered to conduct research and present educational programs. The PPPI was founded by John Crosland Jr. in 1999 and he soon enlisted his close associate H. Allen Tate Jr. and other Charlotte real estate luminaries to PPPI’s Board of Directors. They understood firsthand that every day, local and state governments, as well as the federal government, are considering and adopting new ordinances, regulations or laws that impact the viability of the real estate industry and the business community at large. Local governments are especially active in a thriving area such as the Charlotte region, where they are constantly addressing the opportunities and challenges that come with sustained economic growth and development in the region. The PPPI founders believed that government decision-makers must be fully informed if they are to find effective solutions to the issues they are considering. This requires taking into account the economic and practical impact of governmental actions. In order to foster this effective and informed decision-making, the PPPI was chartered to bring comprehensive and authoritative research and analysis to the public policy debate.
