Two For Tuesday | June 20, 2023

1.  My new BLOG is live:  ANOTHER reason you should keep a tab open for REBIC all the time!!!

At any given time during the course of a day, my head is filled with thoughts to share with you, and a LOT of those ideas happen during my morning run.  This new blog platform is a play on that “lightbulb moment,” and gives me a chance to share things with you every month.  My posts are a spin on the usual “My Take” that you’ve come to enjoy in my Two for Tuesday emails while telling a longer story about any one of the critical issues facing Charlotte and our region.

What I hope is that YOU can SHARE this blog with others and ask THEM to SHARE as well.  Let’s keep the channels open and help educate all our members.

Announcing the launch of my new, monthly blog, “Thoughts on the Run”.  Read for yourself the ‘voice in my head’ that is my opinion but also supported by fact.  The goal?  I stay in shape, and you can become more educated about our region and our responsibility as residents, and REBIC members.  My first post is entitled:

We Can’t Fix Housing If We Won’t Meet the MomentHere’s a peek at the content:

“Since Charlotte’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) became effective, policy makers are already scrambling in confusion about its implementation, suddenly requesting significant changes to the document, all due to pressure from a handful of vocal neighborhood groups…. This dissension means years of work and collaboration on a landmark document could potentially go down the drain.  Now, members of Council and Planning Staff are being pressured into an effort to retract the allowance for duplexes and triplexes in ALL areas currently zoned for single-family houses.  Yes, ALL.”

2.  Our Newest Member Spotlight – Chris Thomas

It’s summer! And this month we are proud to feature Chris Thomas, a partner with Premier Member Childress Klein, where he is responsible for the retail development, marketing, and leasing practice.  He has extensive experience in site selection, development, and structuring and negotiating transactions.  His work at CK has included playing a leading role with his partners in developing such projects such as RiverGate, Afton Ridge, Charlotte Premium Outlets, Waverly, Apex SouthPark, and The Concourse.

Thomas’ involvement at REBIC began during his time on the NAIOP Charlotte board, where he served as President and continues to be involved in advocacy and government affairs work.  Some of his more significant work in this regard has included the successful repeal of the zoning protest petition in North Carolina as well as efforts related to the LLC franchise tax.  To read his entire BIO, click here:  Chris Thomas Bio
