2. New December Member Spotlight – Karla Knotts
Karla Hammer Knotts is the Co-Owner and Vice President of Knotts Development, and she possesses a resume and pedigree that spans all possible positions within the industry. She describes herself as a “land developer, home builder, Real Estate analyst, on-demand problem solver, and cyclist.” Can’t say it any better than that.
Her advocacy for the housing industry in North Carolina is legendary, with more than 30 years of experience in real estate, including being named a Life Director for the Home Builders Association of Greater Charlotte, President of the HBAGC in 1999, chair of multiple committees for the North Carolina Home Builders Association (NCHBA), and induction into the North Carolina Housing Hall of Fame in 2021. Her background also includes a breathtaking number of appointments to various advisory committees and steering committees. Ultimately, Karla is an extremely approachable and down to earth human. She is friendly, adventurous, and wise.
We’re proud and honored to feature Karla Knotts as our current Member Spotlight! Read the entire bio here.
My take: Karla is not one of those who knows a little about a lot. She knows a lot about a lot. During my first job on Capitol Hill in the mid 1990’s I worked for a U.S. Senator from Colorado who was very similar in his ability to receive and retain a ton of information. At that time, the Senate was considering whether or not to ratify the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Ralph Nader, a consumer advocate and destroyer of the Corvair, who later became a Green Party Candidate for President, challenged every member of the Senate to a quiz on NAFTA because he was so adamantly opposed to its passage and wanted to embarrass as many elected officials as he possibly could. The only one who took him up on the challenge was my boss, Hank Brown, who aced the quiz and told Mr. Nader to “have a nice day.” Karla is that type of individual. She doesn’t back down from a fight and she knows what she’s talking about. She has been an invaluable resource to me and the industry at large. I thank her for her consistent commitment to our prosperity and progress.
P.S. Our next edition of 2 for Tuesday will be published on January 2nd. Happy New Year!
