Cornelius Housing Task Force Briefs Town Board

Last week members of the Cornelius Housing Task Force provided a briefing to Cornelius Town Commissioners and made several recommendations.  The task force had been meeting monthly since earlier in the year and suggested to board members that they commission a housing needs assessment study to understand housing needs and to better plan for future redevelopment that is likely to occur mainly on the east side of town.

During the course of its work, the task force held numerous discussions about the following topics:

East Side urgency relative to development changes that are occuringCornelius neighborhoods of concern (e.g., Olde Mill Village, Smithville)Types of housing relative to the types of needMarket Rate vs. AffordableOwner-occupied vs. RentalSingle-family vs. Multi-familyGaps in needed housing types (i.e., not enough housing inventory for Very Low to Moderate Incomes)Much of Cornelius workforce resides outside of Cornelius.

The Town Board will likely discuss how and if to fund a housing needs assessment study at a future meeting.  You can view the presentation in its entirety here.
