Every year, the Canopy Housing Foundation holds their Realtors® Care Day. An event that unites our industry with residents across the region and is made possible by the generous donation of industry professionals. 275 Realtors® gave their time and care to improve the lives of 16 homeowners in three counties: Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Haywood. We were there to follow the action and even do a little heavy lifting as this great video shows.
Executive Director, Rob Nanfelt visited a few of the sites getting the chance to chat with elected officials Senator Caleb Theodros, who represents NC District 41, Monifa “Mo” Drayton, the incoming Mecklenburg County District 2 Commissioner, as well as Charlotte City Council District 1 Representative Danté Anderson, who shared a message emphasizing the importance of ensuring that safe and affordable housing is available to all. Thank you to Canopy!
My Take: A lot of the advocacy we perform is inside buildings, meeting in formal settings, or offering public comments at various government events. This, however, is a way to see up close what public service really looks like. At REBIC, our highest priority is to Champion Prosperity. Prosperity comes in different forms, and feeling safe and peaceful in your own home is right at the top of the list. Were it not for the powerhouse of labor and vision of the Canopy Housing Foundation, our outreach would be missing a day of impact that is incomparable. Thank you also to the elected leaders who were able to take time to come and see how working together creates stronger communities.

Press Release April 15, 2026:
CORNELIUS, NC – The Town of Cornelius will hold two separate Downtown Master Plan community meetings at the end of the month, April 29 and 30.
The open house will be held over two days in the Town Hall Community Room, 21445 Catawba Ave, Cornelius NC, in a convenient, drop-in format:
Members of the public can drop in at any point during the above hours to review and provide feedback to the updated draft Downtown Master Plan. Plan updates will be visible at stations throughout the room, and staff will be available to answer questions and receive feedback. These updates are primarily to the transportation and implementation sections of the plan, providing a clear outline of the plan’s scope and adjusting recommendations to align with recent neighborhood feedback.
The 2050 Downtown Cornelius Master Plan establishes a 25-year conceptual vision for the future of the Old Town area, including incremental recommendations for land use, development characteristics, transportation improvements, branding, and historic preservation. The plan is currently in draft format. Adoption is contemplated later into 2026, following receipt of comments from the public and further evaluation by the board of commissioners. A full updated draft of the Plan is also available for download and review at www.cornelius.org/downtown.
The Town values public input and looks forward to continuing to engage with residents throughout the planning process.
My Take: An opportunity for community feedback is at the core of advocacy. It is only effective when a broad range of voices share a collective vision. We encourage this kind of engagement to help mitigate the voices of those who, sometimes without being educated, and sometimes in anger, insist the few should control the many. If you are affected by the outcome of these sessions, you would do well to be a part of them. If you are a part of the Cornelius community or intend to do projects there, please consider participating. Engagement is vital for advocacy to really take hold and for positive outcomes to be achieved.
