WSACC Provides Clarity in Water Sewer Issues

Chad Von Cannon Spells Out Factual Data on Water Sewer Issues

We’re excited to share that our Public Policy Breakfast on the 27th with Chad Von Cannon, Engineering Director of WSACC (Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County) was a raging success!

Well attended by over 70 individuals, all enjoyed a rousing morning of much needed question and answer exchange. Chad listened carefully, and deftly delivered comprehensive answers with an entertaining flair. He immersed us in numbers, charts, and facts about what is really happening with water and sewer in Cabarrus County. In fact, the content of this meeting may offer those in other regions robust strategies to help unravel water and sewer issues in their municipalities.

Here’s our conclusion and takeaways:

1.      When WSACC pushed out control to the individual municipalities to manage permitting, we believe it led to many not adhering to the real information about usage and capacity when granting permits to developers and even individuals.

2.      That situation is causing a denial of permits that are otherwise allowable. Opinions about why local control is spinning this in the wrong direction mainly circle around the idea that municipalities are using either outmoded, or false data, or not maintaining facilities as directed. Or worse, handing out approvals for the permits through politically-charged agendas.

3.      What we’re seeing is the weaponization of a utility that should be controlled by an Authority in the business of managing water and sewer, so all have equal rights to the facts. without a solution, this mishandling will damage a healthy real estate market.
