Every local issue we are trying to resolve is affected by a larger fabric of issues that must be understood, including embracing positive ways to manage expected growth. It is therefore crucial that we work together to implement an effective, scalable, and relevant TRANSPORTATION system, and make expanding WATER & SEWER CAPACITY a priority, all while welcoming new talent and new ideas. Similarly, we will promote the understanding that CHARLOTTE DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT remains a consistent community asset whose economic benefits are enormous.
The Positive Outcome We Want to Achieve:
One of the most politically charged issues is how to ensure proper stewardship of permits for water and sewer. Our desire is for all to have equal opportunity through a careful review of facts and reinstate due process and eliminate the chance that any public utility can be weaponized by any group. Right now, many residential developers, as well as those who want to build civic or medical facilities, are denied permits that are otherwise allowable.
It is important we use our voice of advocacy to resolve these issues.
What We’re Doing Now:
In an effort to open the channels of communication, we are reaching out to State officials to help mitigate the confusion and set straight the process. We are also providing forums for our membership to have access to facts. Opinions about why local control is spinning so negatively mainly circles around the idea that municipalities are using either outmoded, or false data, or not maintaining facilities. Without a solution, we risk causing irreparable harm to the economic health of the Charlotte region.
