Connect NC Bond Campaign Kicks Off in Raleigh

Last week, Governor Pat McCrory, members of the General Assembly and community leaders from across the state came together on the campus of North Carolina State University to formally kick off the Connect NC Committee 2016 bond campaign.

On March 15, voters across North Carolina will be asked to support a $2 billion bond package for our university system, our community colleges, our state parks, our National Guard and numerous local water and sewer systems. The bond will provide targeted, long-term improvements focused on areas critical to improving our quality of life.

The last statewide general obligation bond was authorized in 2000 by North Carolina voters to upgrade our state infrastructure and higher education facilities, including our state universities and community colleges. Since 2000, we have added nearly 2 million citizens to our state. The bond will allow us to pay for 50-year infrastructure with 20-year financing. The bond will not require any tax increases, given our strong revenue growth, prudent fiscal stewardship and ample debt service capacity.

REBIC supports the passage of the Connect NC bond package, and will be encouraging our members to vote YES on March 15th.
