Yes! For Meck – Needs Every Supporter to Do Two Things ASAP! (Before EOB Tuesday)

On Tuesday, September 2nd, the Charlotte City Council will discuss the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the city and county regarding the new authority that would be formed as part of the 1-cent sales tax referendum if adopted by voters in November.  The MOU is an agreement around the process and the schedule each will use to establish the Authority should the referendum pass.

We have an opportunity to make sure the council hears from supporters of the transportation plan and 1-cent sales tax referendum. It is essential that we:

• Ask for their support the Mobility plan that they have all seen and had an opportunity to influence

• Urge them to Vote Yes to adopt the MOU

• Ask that they not only support, but advocate for the transportation referendum

It’s a penny for every dollar spent – a small contribution but a big move forward for a better quality of life for all of us; and a big move forward towards the transportation system we need to keep pace with the region’s growth.

WE NEED EVERY SUPPORTER TO DO TWO THINGS:

1. As soon as possible, and before Tuesday: Cut and paste (or write your own) one of the email samples below and send to your District representative, and all At-Large Members. You may want to send your email to all Councilmembers.

2. Attend the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 2nd at 5:30pm at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center to let them see the faces of supporters and residents.

Dear Councilmember,

As an elected Council member you carry responsibility for Charlotte’s collective mobility future. I urge you to support the Strategic Mobility Plan, the City‑County MOU, and the one‑cent transportation sales tax referendum.

The Mobility plan is an important step for Charlotte’s future. Thank you for working to create a Memorandum of Understanding in support of the establishment of an authority to manage our transportation system in the event that the referendum passes in November.

Dear Charlotte City Councilmember,

I am writing as a concerned community member and on behalf of the Yes for Meck Campaign, which aims to keep Charlotte and Mecklenburg County moving forward.

Thank you for your work on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to address the needs of our community. I am particularly encouraged that the MOU will ensure the appointment of transit riders to the Transit Authority and prioritize the security and safety of both community members and staff. This will prepare us for the passage of the referendum.

The proposed transit tax is essential for addressing critical needs within Mecklenburg County, and this MOU is crucial to enhancing the overall plan for everyone.

I urge you to vote yes on the MOU and support the transportation plan to develop transit for the county. This initiative will empower our growth over the next 30 years and fuel our county for a generation.
