  1. CONNECT Beyond – A Regional Mobility Initiative

Two years ago, developed with minimal consultation with its regional neighbors, the City of Charlotte unveiled its transit plan which would have called for a one cent sales tax to fund it.  Since that time, the overall cost has ballooned to nearly $15 billion (maybe more) and it is no closer to gaining the level of support required from leadership in the outlying towns, or the General Assembly necessary to be realized.  One year ago, the CONNECT Beyond Regional Mobility Plan was formally endorsed by the Centralina Regional Council and the Metropolitan Transit Commission.  Recent comments by key Charlotte officials, including Mayor Lyles and Council Member Ed Driggs, Chair of the Transportation, Planning, & Development Committee, indicate CONNECT may be the new vehicle for guiding Charlotte and the overall region’s transportation future.  Read on to learn more about the plan, recommendations, and ongoing efforts.

Strategic Parking Plan Survey Response Requested

  • The City of Charlotte is developing a Strategic Parking Plan (SPP) and the study includes two phases. During Phase One of the SPP, the city is studying its on-street parking and curb lane management program in Uptown and South End.  It is seeking input as staff assesses the existing on-street parking system to understand parking and loading trends and to learn what needs exist as they develop a plan to provide better curb lane access for all users.  Phase One will also include recommendations to update the Residential Parking Permit Program, which is a citywide effort.
  • Visit the Charlotte Strategic Parking Plan engagement portal for information about the SPP, to take the survey, and to provide your thoughts on our interactive feedback map. This is the first of several engagement opportunities over the coming months and through 2023.
