#1 Statewide Support Swells for Mecklenburg County Transportation Referendum

Yes for Meck. It’s three little words. But it packs a punch. We’ve come so far to get this on the ballot, and have garnered so much support. Over this last year we’ve redoubled our efforts to get transportation right here in the region, and on November 4th we have a chance to get it right.

QCity Metro says: If voters reject the current plan, every commuter who stands to benefit will be left waiting while our transit system deteriorates.

“This overwhelming vote of support demonstrates the unity of our members in recognizing the importance of this referendum to Mecklenburg County’s future. We look forward to partnering with the Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority and other stakeholders to ensure community concerns are prioritized and addressed, and that the benefits of this investment are shared broadly across all neighborhoods. This is about ensuring growth that works for everyone.”- Black Political Caucus Chair Jocelyn Jones-Nolley

“This referendum represents one of the most critical investments in our county’s history and is a pivotal step toward a more connected Mecklenburg County. It’s a chance to expand access to opportunity, and ensures that we move forward in a way that meets the needs of a rapidly growing community.”- Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners Chair Mark Jerrell

“The Black Political Caucus has long been a cornerstone of civic leadership in Charlotte. Our endorsement of the referendum reflects both the values of the organization and the future we want for this community—a future where transportation connects people to opportunity, strengthens neighborhoods and supports growth for decades to come.”- At-Large City Council Member James Mitchell

My Take: I want to begin and end with this. The plan contemplates receiving an additional $20 billion dollars over the next 30 years to expand needed upgrades for which we are ALREADY desperately behind in providing and paying for. That’s what we’re saying “yes” to. There are many who’s arguments become so granular and specific that we’re missing this simple fact: There will BE NO OTHER money available to fund transportation this generation. This is the opportunity. There will be oversight to plan, run, and manage it. But without money we will be stunting our ability to stay relevant, to stay safe, to offer opportunity, or to simply keep up. It is all about the fact that this is the money we need to fix and grow transportation in our region.

#2 Mooresville Invites Public Comment on Comprehensive Plan Draft Version

Taken from an email from City Explained, Inc.

Great news!  A full draft of the Mooresville Tomorrow comprehensive plan is available for review and comment.  It represents a 99% complete version of the document minus a “top ten list of initiatives” (page 4) and a plan implementation matrix (page 143), both of which will be created after input is received from the public.

A copy of the document is available via the link below:

MT Comprehensive Plan_DRAFT.pdf

Please stop by the Planning and Community Development Department if you need to view a printed copy.  Their office is located at 750 W. Iredell Avenue.

Three community workshops were held on October 6-7-9, 2025, to collect feedback on the draft document.  Thank you to everyone that attended one of the events!

Additional comments or questions can be emailed to Ashley Lattin at [email protected].  You can send them using (1) the sticky notes tool in Adobe Acrobat, (2) a list of comments with chapter-page-paragraph references, or (3) hand-written notes in a hard copy of the document.

Feel free to call Ashley in the Planning and Community Development Department at 704-799-4042 if you have any questions while reviewing it.  Also, please forward this message to anyone in your social circles that you think would be interested in reviewing, and providing comments on, the draft comprehensive plan.

Please provide any comments on the draft document via the email address above ([email protected]) before November 3, 2025, to be considered for the next version.  A new version of the document — labeled the public hearing draft — will be released in December 2025.

My Take:  Over the last couple of years, there has been some talk around the increasing difficulty in obtaining approvals on new development projects in Mooresville. Significant staff turnover at the Town as well as an uptick in anti-growth sentiment have contributed to some of these challenges. We now have an opportunity to weigh in on this key planning document as it works its way through the process. If you live in Mooresville or are contemplating future projects within that jurisdiction, please take a moment to provide your feedback now.
