SUMMARY:Strides for Shelter 5K | Presented by Canopy Housing Foundation
DESCRIPTION:Our 2024 beneficiary organization is \nHome Again Foundation \n \nHome Again Foundation\, established in 2018\, is dedicated to providing sustainable\, affordable housing along with supportive services for the homeless and those who are at risk of becoming homeless. \nThe proceeds from this year’s race will fund the construction of a fully furnished one-bedroom\, one-bath cottage for a homeless veteran in Home Again’s second development on a 2-acre site in Mecklenburg County. Residents in their communities are automatically enrolled in supportive services based on an individualized self-sufficiency assessment and service plan. The rent for these units is at or below market value with all utilities included. \n  \n\nGRAND MARSHAL \nWe are thrilled to announce that this year’s Strides for Shelter Grand Marshal will be Eric Thomas\, Chief Meteorologist for WBTV from 1988-2021. \n \nSince retiring at the end of 2021\, Eric has fulfilled his dream of returning to the other side of the camera by embarking on his photography and filming exploits. Not long ago\, Eric was asked to help tell the story of Home Again Foundation – and after forming a special bond with Rick Gilbert\, the Founder\, Eric joined the board of directors. By bringing his excitement for Home Again Foundation to to the race on October 19\, Eric also hopes to spread the word and educate our community on the growing crisis and homeless population in our region. \nThank you for your support of the Strides for Shelter 5K. Since the inception of the Strides for Shelter 5K in 2016\, the Canopy Housing Foundation has returned more than $170\,000 from the race proceeds to several worthy local beneficiaries who are all working to address the needs of the homeless. \nAs the sponsoring organization\, the Canopy Housing Foundation is the charitable arm of the Canopy Realtor® Association.
